According to foreign media reports, recently, Bercellas.lr (Parma, Italy) and Formula 7 (Varano de Melegari, Italy) have jointly developed an innovative SAE single-seater seat that uses only 100% natural fiber composite materials, such as Flax fiber.

Bercella pointed out that in addition to being an environmentally friendly material, flax fiber also has anti-ultraviolet, impact and corrosion resistance properties. In addition, this material absorbs vibration and isolates it from electricity and heat, so it is very suitable for seat applications such as Formula SAE racing cars. Bercella added that these seats weigh only 1.45 kg (3.2 lb).

Bercella will use natural fiber prepregs provided by Angeloni Group (Quarto d"Altino, Italy), as well as epoxy or polyester resins. The company pointed out that in addition to synthetic resins, it also needs to vigorously develop bio-resins to achieve 100% sustainable end products, especially in the current situation of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) vigorously promoting the use of natural materials in motorsports.

"Because of its excellent mechanical properties and low environmental impact, our IMP503Z-HT-AmpliTex series of natural fiber prepregs have a very wide range of uses." Bercella flax fiber supplier Angeloni Group (Italy) said. "In addition, shock absorption, UV resistance, and multiple design options make it an ideal solution for a variety of applications from sports to automotive, aerospace and marine fields."
